Boston Celtics star Jaylen Brown is expressing his frustration after the Beverly Hills Police Department called off his event for NBA All-Star Weekend on Saturday night. He hasn’t held back on social media, lambasting both the police and the city.
In a recent post, he vented, “Beverly Hills is so trash it’s pissing me off. We had a great panel discussion about the future of culture with amazing guests, and the efforts of those who organized it are just wasted.”
Brown also shared his confrontation with a Beverly Hills officer, where he pressed for a “specific reason” behind the cancellation. He conveyed feeling “targeted” by the decision.
His demand, “Who’s stopping this?” prompted a rather nonchalant response from the officer, who said the matter was “above my pay grade,” specifying that it was ultimately up to “the city.”
According to Brown, the event was intended as a panel discussion rather than a party, and he pointed out that music was only playing at 7 p.m. “Well, you applied for a permit and it was denied, but you could still hold the event,” the officer reiterated.
Brown expressed his frustration to the camera, stating, “We’re just trying to hold events and discussions around culture, future, and leadership. We feel like we’re being targeted.” At one point, a voice even called out, “I don’t know the answer,” amplifying the confusion surrounding the situation.
He also mentioned his nonprofit organization, Boston XChange, focused on nurturing cultural innovation and building wealth in underrepresented communities. It’s still unclear if the event was affiliated with his organization. Meanwhile, the Beverly Hills Police Department has not yet responded to inquiries regarding the incident.
