A street performance by Ed Sheeran, the technology capital of India's Bengaluru, was suddenly stopped by police on Sunday, angering fans and urged British singers to issue clarifications.
Sheeran, wearing a white T-shirt and shorts, was seen singing and playing his guitar on the pavement in central Bengaluru before a Sunday night concert.
Local channels showed officers walking to Sheeran as they sang your hit single shape and unplugged the microphone, as onlookers jeered. Sheeran left immediately.
Police said the event organizers were denied permission to perform street performances, which were on one of the city's busiest streets.
“We refused to give permission because Church Street is so busy. That's why he was asked to leave the spot,” said Shekal Tekkannanavar, a civil servant at Bengaluru police. It was quoted as saying by Ani in the press.
Sheeran, who began his career as a backer in the UK, said on his Instagram account he has permission to play.

Sheeran is in India for a series of concerts on his mathematics tour. Later that night, he performed in front of thousands of people at the city's open grounds, accompanied by Indian singer Shilpa Rao.
