Suspect Identified in Portland Shooting
Portland, Oregon police have released an image of a suspect believed to have shot two officers on Tuesday night.
The Police Bureau is actively conducting a search for this individual, who is described as a white male in his 30s. He has facial hair and was last seen wearing a black baseball cap, a dark jacket over a gray hooded sweatshirt, black pants, and black shoes.
At a news conference, Mayor Keith Wilson expressed gratitude for the hard work of police officers, acknowledging the inherent dangers of their role. “We are very concerned about the officers who were shot,” he added, noting that the officers are currently in stable condition and wishing them a speedy recovery.
The shooting incident occurred around 8:20 p.m. after police responded to reports of a weapon-related threat. They located the suspect on Northeast Clackamas Street, situated between Northeast 16th and 17th Avenues.
According to police statements, the suspect opened fire, injuring two officers who were subsequently transported to a hospital for treatment. They’re reported to be stable now.
Following the incident, the suspect fled the scene, prompting a significant police response that included forming a perimeter around the area. Several specialized teams were dispatched to aid in the manhunt.
Authorities believe the suspect may be armed with both a knife and a handgun. They also mentioned that he was seen carrying a black backpack and a green shopping bag. The public is urged to call 911 with any information regarding the suspect’s whereabouts.
People are advised not to approach him as he is considered armed and dangerous.
