Investigation of Suspicious Packages at Israeli Embassy in Copenhagen

COPENHAGEN, Denmark — Authorities are looking into suspicious packages that were sent to the Israeli embassy in Copenhagen, as announced on Thursday.

The Danish Public Broadcasting Officer shared images showing police and emergency vehicles gathered near the embassy. There were multiple armed officers and a individual dressed in dark green hazardous materials suits along with gas masks, standing behind a cordoned-off area next to a white building in the Hellerup district of North Copenhagen.

In a post on X, Copenhagen police stated, “We are attending the Israeli Embassy, investigating the cargo we received.” They noted that further details would be shared as they become available, and mentioned that they had blocked off the road nearby.

Anders Fredericksen, the mission director for the Copenhagen police, reassured locals that there was no reason for alarm, speaking to Denmark’s Daily Extra Bladette. He indicated that an investigation was ongoing within the embassy after staff had alerted them.

Fredericksen did not provide any details regarding the nature of the suspicious packages.

A representative from the Israeli Embassy in Copenhagen stated he was unable to comment on the matter when approached by the press.

Following a conflict that erupted between Israel and Iran in June, security measures around Israeli and Jewish institutions across many European nations have been heightened.

Just last week, security personnel detained a man from Aafs, Denmark, who was suspected of spying on Jewish locations and individuals in Germany for Iranian intelligence.

German federal prosecutors indicated that this man had been tasked by the Iranian intelligence agency with collecting information on “the Jewish region and certain Jewish individuals” earlier in the year, but did not provide specific details.

He reportedly surveilled three properties in June, potentially in connection with planned terrorist attacks on Jewish targets and possibly for ongoing intelligence assessments in Germany, according to prosecutors.

German Justice Minister Stephanie Fbig remarked that if these allegations are confirmed, it would indicate a deeply troubling operation. She emphasized that “protecting Jewish lives is a top priority for the German government.”

Germany has requested the extradition of the suspect involved.
