NYPD Officer Celebrates Promotion with Heartwarming Surprise

During a recent promotion ceremony, NYPD Officer Joseph Ahn, alongside 124 of his colleagues, found himself with some unexpected supporters.

Sasha Chen, 37, and her husband Daniel Chen, 39, presented the 28-year-old officer with flowers to mark his new title. This gesture came a year after the police officers helped save the life of their newborn son, Lois.

“That was such a traumatic experience for my baby,” Sasha shared. “If Sergeant Ahn hadn’t been there, things could have turned really dangerous for both of us. It felt like divine intervention.”

Now, their son is a healthy one-year-old.

The Chens, residing in Bath Beach, were on their way to NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital when they found themselves stuck in traffic, racing against time to get Sasha there for delivery.

“I think we had about 30 or 40 minutes left,” she recalled. “We noticed Officer Ahn’s car and managed to pull up next to him.”

Desperate, she pleaded, “Can you help us reach the hospital safely? I’m in so much pain. Please!”

“Sergeant Ahn called for backup and escorted us to the hospital. The staff was ready for us, and thankfully, my baby was born within 20 minutes of our arrival.”

For Sergeant Ahn, it was just part of the job.

“I aimed to get them to the hospital safely, ensuring everything went well, and I was glad I could help in such a critical moment,” he said modestly.

With plans to marry his fiancée Ashley Kim next year, Ahn expressed his gratitude for earning the sergeant’s stripes through hard work.

“I’ve been dedicated to my role, and I’m thankful for the chance to mentor younger officers,” he mentioned. “I’ve had many great mentors myself, and I hope to be just as impactful to those I collaborate with.”

As per the Chens, he’s certainly begun his journey well.
