Evidence in Kylen Lacey’s Case
Lawyers for Kylen Lacey have presented potential evidence aiming to demonstrate the late LSU star’s innocence regarding the charges he faced prior to his suicide in April.
Lacey was connected to a crash in Louisiana that occurred in December, which resulted in the death of 78-year-old Herman Hall, as reported by officials in January. Lacey was reportedly accused of reckless driving, allegedly speeding and passing in a no-passing zone when another driver swerved and collided with Hall’s vehicle.
In an interview, Lacey’s attorney, Matthew Ollie, shared a video he claims shows Lacey’s vehicle positioned 200 feet away at the moment of impact, indicating he was not involved in the crash itself.
“Our data clearly shows that Kylen Lacey overtook four cars. That’s a given. But he was safely back in his lane, about 92.3 yards behind Hall’s vehicle at the time of the crash. The keyword here is ‘behind,’” Ollie explained.
Ollie introduced data revealing that another car—referred to as “Vehicle 2″—was closely following Hall’s truck when the accident happened, mere moments before the collision, reportedly accelerating to nearly 50 mph just before impact. He also mentioned body cam footage of a police officer speaking with the individual driving Vehicle 2, suggesting they might have been responsible for the crash.
In response to Ollie’s claims, the Louisiana State Police stated they conducted a thorough investigation. They noted that while Lacey was indeed behind the crash scene, the evidence indicated his reckless actions contributed to the incident.
“No one disputed his position at the crash scene. His speeding and maneuvering caused a series of collisions,” the LSP clarified.
Rocky Arsenault, Lacey’s agent, mentioned back in January that Lacey was cooperating with authorities during the investigation.
Lacey had transferred to LSU in 2022, and he experienced a standout season in 2024, recording 58 catches for 866 yards and nine touchdowns.
