Police Release Body Cam Footage for Tyreek Hill Arrest: ‘Take Me to Jail’

Miami-Dade County Police on Monday released body camera footage from the arrest of Miami Dolphins wide receiver Tyreek Hill.

Police detained Tyreek Hill before the Miami Dolphins and Jacksonville Jaguars game, Breitbart News reported Sunday.

“Video of Hill being restrained by four officers as he lay face down in the pavement shocked social media viewers who were hoping to see him play later in the afternoon,” the report said.

His attorney, Drew Rosenhaus, said the altercation was over a “driving violation.”

The arrest sparked much criticism on social media, and Miami-Dade Police Chief Stephen V. Daniels released more than an hour of body camera footage on Monday, promising full transparency. Fox News:

The video begins with a police officer pulling up next to Hill's car and telling him he's speeding. Hill asks how fast he's been going, but is told to pull over.

When the officer knocked on his window, Hill handed over his driver's license and told the officer not to knock on his window like that. Hill then told the officer to give him the ticket and closed the window again. The officer then asked Hill to leave the window open.

“Keep your window up or we're going to take you out of your car. In fact, get out of your car,” the officer says.

The situation escalated further, with another officer stepping in and saying, “We're not playing this game,” while yet another officer helped pull Hill out, and the wide receiver called his agent, “Hey, Drew, you're under arrest, Drew.”

“We tell you to do something and you do it. You do what we tell you to do, not what you want to do. You're a little confused,” the officer said.

“Take me to jail. Do what you have to do,” Hill replied as he fell to the ground.

The officers did not initially know Tyreek Hill's identity, until one officer pointed out he was “one of the Dolphins' star players.”

“I'm just a black man and that's it,” Tyreek Hill can be heard yelling in the background.

Dolphins defensive lineman Calais Campbell then approached the scene but was warned by police to stand back, and when Campbell asked what had happened, police handcuffed him.

Hill received a traffic ticket and left the vehicle with the deputy driving, in the passenger seat.
