Police Officers in Sacramento Save Suspect from Fire

Recently, police in Sacramento, California, acted quickly to rescue a suspect from a dangerous situation.

The incident took place on June 1 when officers were pursuing a driver linked to an armed carjacking. It was reported on Friday.

Dashcam footage captured part of the short chase that ended when the car crashed into a chain-link fence, hitting an airport facility.

After the collision, the suspect’s vehicle went over a small hill, and not long after, flames erupted into the dark sky. Clips shared by the Sacramento Police Department show this dramatic moment.

“The vehicle is on fire,” one of the officers remarked as he approached the scene. Body camera footage later shows officers scaling the damaged fence to reach the burning car.

The officers from the Sacramento Police described how they rushed toward the burning vehicle after it caught fire post-chase. They quickly pulled the driver to safety, demonstrating the professionalism and courage expected in such dire situations.

The ABC 10 article named the officers involved: Keegan Hironaka, Nicholas Duncan, and Riley Start.

As they neared the car, the driver could be heard desperately calling for help. Surrounding grass was also ablaze, prompting the officers to act swiftly to extract him. When they broke the window, the suspect reached out, and the officers managed to pull him from the fiery wreckage.

“Please, help me! Please help me!” the suspect cried repeatedly. The officers confirmed that no one else was in the vehicle before placing him in handcuffs.

Worried about the fire igniting the gas tank, Duncan remarked, “It turned into a rescue mission. We needed to get that person out of there and ensure everyone’s safety.”

The suspect now faces charges for carjacking and evading police.

While some called the officers heroes for their actions, they humbly stated, “This is just our job.”

Duncan expressed pride in working alongside such selfless colleagues, although Hironaka noted that he hopes the footage serves as a warning to the community.

“We just want people to pull over when we turn on the lights,” he said.

The Sacramento Police Department emphasizes dedication as a core value, stating on their website, “Public safety is not just a job; it’s a calling. It means adhering to our mission despite challenges, and being judged not only by our actions but also by the impact we have on those we serve.”

In May, during National Police Week, President Trump honored officers for their bravery and service, stating they protect families and communities while managing burdens most cannot understand.
