Police save teenager and his pet cats stranded in Massachusetts swamp

Body camera footage captures the intense moment when police officers in Massachusetts rescue a confused, dehydrated teenager and his pet cat from the swampy wilderness.

Officer Brennan Cardoza approaches the 19-year-old, who is shirtless and visibly relieved. “Is it okay, boss? Are you alright? Where’s your cat?” she asks him.

To reach the young man, Cardoza wades through dense, watery underbrush, as he had been lost for about seven hours.

“They’re here,” the exhausted teen replies, gesturing to his cat.

Cardoza discussed the treacherous conditions she faced during the rescue, describing the area as “a nasty muddy place you don’t want to be,” according to her remarks to a local news outlet.

Visibility was poor, and the officers relied on vocal communication to locate him.

When found, the young man had sustained cuts and was covered in blood from the sharp foliage. The Somerset Police Department received a report from his parents on June 22, stating he had gone out for just a short walk but hadn’t returned, which was unusual for him.

“He usually doesn’t wander far and had left his phone behind, so they were understandably anxious,” police explained.

While one officer stayed with the worried parents, another operated a drone, and the remaining two ventured into the underbrush.

The officers entered the marsh, nearly submerged in water up to their waists.

The drone was equipped with pre-recorded messages urging the teen to keep calling out, which helped the team pinpoint his location in the dense swamp.

“The drone broadcasted instructions and encouraged the missing person to continue yelling for assistance,” police reported.

They managed to triangulate the teen’s position based on calls from nearby residents who heard his cries.

Officer Paul Trenholm operated the drone, while Cardoza and Detective James Cardella navigated through the thick vegetation.

“Thankfully, this was a success,” Trenholm remarked after the rescue.

Using the drone’s infrared capabilities, the officers charted a safe path through the maze-like swamps, ultimately reuniting the teenager with his family.

“We didn’t do anything that other officers wouldn’t do,” Cardoza said humbly in a follow-up statement.
