Police say Luigi Mangione started shaking when confronted at McDonald’s; other details revealed at press conference

Law enforcement officials have released details about the suspect who killed UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson, including his reaction when he was first confronted by police.

Last week, a masked man was caught on surveillance footage shooting and killing Brian Thompson, the CEO of the world's largest health insurance company, outside a Manhattan hotel. After an extensive police investigation, police said the suspect was identified as Luigi Mangione, a former Ivy League college student and critic of capitalism.

He said he knew nothing about the currency police found and suggested it was probably planted.

He was taken into custody Monday at a McDonald's in Altoona, Pennsylvania, after a restaurant employee noticed him and called police.

Lieutenant Colonel George Bivens of the Pennsylvania State Police said Officers found $8,000 in U.S. currency and $2,000 in foreign currency on Mangione, as well as a bag designed to block cell phone data transmissions, police said.

He was also found in possession of a ghost gun, a silencer and fake identification.

He said he knew nothing about the currency police found and suggested it was probably planted. He also denied that the bag showed criminal sophistication, saying the bag was simply waterproof.

Mangione has been charged with firearms offenses in Pennsylvania and is expected to be charged in New York with charges related to the murder.

Online sleuths were eagerly searching for accounts matching Mangione's description. One account praised a book written by Unabomber Ted Kaczynski, who was imprisoned for killing three people and seriously injuring 23 others in a nationwide mail bomb campaign.

The New York Post reported that Mangione was angry at the way his family was treated by medical companies.

Many on the left have praised Thompson's cold-blooded murder simply because it inspires hatred for wealthy CEOs and America's health care system.

Thompson's wife, Paulette Thompson, told NBC News that her husband had received death threats.

“Basically I don't know. Was there not enough reporting? I don't know the details. All I know is that he said there were people who were threatening him. ” she said.
