The FBI launched an investigation after some delegates at the Democratic National Convention were horrified to discover maggots in their breakfast plates.
The tragic incident took place at the Fairmont Chicago Hotel, according to a hotel spokesperson.
“Such ugly attacks have no place in our democracy.”
“We can confirm that a group disrupted a Democratic National Convention breakfast held at our hotel this morning,” Haley Robles said. To WGN-TV. “Our teams acted quickly to clean and disinfect the area, ensuring the event could continue without any further incident.”
A representative for Indiana said hotel staff improvised well after the incident was discovered.
“Obviously they protected us and turned things around within minutes,” Tracy Boyd said. “I just want to say a massive thank you to the hotel staff and management.”
Law enforcement officials responsible for security at the DNC released statements about the incident.
Multiple unknown female suspects entered the building (200 block of North Columbus Drive) and allegedly began placing unknown objects on tables containing food. The suspects then allegedly left the scene. One victim was treated at the scene and released. The FBI Chicago Field Office is assisting with the investigation along with the Chicago Police Department. No further information is available at this time.
Delegates from Minnesota, Ohio, Missouri and Indiana are staying at the Fairmount Hotel, where Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg spoke on Wednesday.
“All Americans have the right to peaceful protest, but these ugly attacks have no place in our democracy,” Sam Varloga, a spokesman for the Indiana Democratic Party, said in a statement.
New York Post attention Anti-Israel protesters had earlier released maggots at a hotel housing Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s delegation. The protesters took responsibility for the attack and also admitted to setting off a fire alarm before Netanyahu was to speak.
