Police search for suspect in random stabbing at train platform near UIC

Chicago police are currently on the lookout for a man involved in an unprovoked stabbing of a woman at a train station near the University of Illinois at Chicago. This incident occurred on Saturday night.

The 27-year-old woman was sitting on a bench at the UIC Halstead Blue Line platform when the man approached her and, without any warning, stabbed her in the chest. Thankfully, her injuries were minor, and she was taken to Stroger Hospital where she is reported to be in good condition, according to a police representative.

The suspect has been described as a Black male, around 6 feet tall, weighing between 160 and 180 pounds. After the attack, he fled the scene on foot, heading north on South Morgan Street, city police reported.

He was last seen wearing white pants, white sneakers, an orange hoodie, a brown jacket, a pink beanie, and he was also carrying a knife and a gray backpack, as captured in surveillance footage around 11:15 p.m. on November 8.

As of Tuesday morning, the suspect was still on the loose. This incident brings to mind the tragic case of 23-year-old Irina Zalutka, who was fatally attacked on a commuter train in Charlotte back in August.

On August 22, a chilling video surfaced of DeCarlos Brown Jr., a 34-year-old man with a history of mental illness and numerous prior arrests, allegedly stabbing Zalutka. More recently, on November 6, there was another stabbing incident on a commuter bus in Charlotte, where a man was charged after seriously injuring someone else.

Amidst these violent crimes, federal officials have been highlighting efforts from the Trump administration aimed at reducing crime and illegal immigration in Chicago. For instance, there’s been a reported decline in homicide rates, shootings, and traffic crimes since the initiation of Operation Midway Blitz, implemented by Customs and Border Protection.

Authorities are urging anyone with information about the recent stabbing incident to contact Area 3 detectives at 312-744-8261 or submit tips anonymously at CPDTip.com.
