An officer responsible for the security of Chicago’s Mayor Brandon Johnson faces disciplinary action after reportedly arriving at work under the influence following a celebration of President Trump’s inauguration.
Josue Najera, 44, was scheduled to guard the mayor’s residence from 9 PM to 6 AM on January 20. However, internal documents suggest he appeared affected when he reported for duty. It was noted that he had attended a viewing event at Trump Tower earlier that evening.
Later that night, Najera allegedly requested to sit in the vehicles of fellow officers, but they declined. In response, he contacted the 18th district station to file a grievance regarding his colleagues, asking the supervisor to inform his sergeant about the situation.
Upon Najera’s arrival for his shift, he reportedly displayed erratic behavior—he was loud, wouldn’t make eye contact, and his sergeant began to probe him about the earlier incident.
According to the report, Najera’s conduct was unusually unstable. When questioned about whether he had been drinking at the Trump Tower party, he initially claimed he was enjoying time with family but later admitted to having consumed alcohol.
He registered a blood alcohol level of .134 on a Breathalyzer test and was subsequently stripped of his ID and badge the following day.
Najera was handed a 25-day suspension, although he has yet to serve it.
Neither the mayor’s office nor the police department provided comments regarding his suspension.
