Louisiana State Police Release Video on Kylen Lacey Case
Lousiana State Police have published a significant case report video after a lawyer representing the late LSU star Kylen Lacey submitted evidence to support his innocence regarding charges that were pending before his suicide in April.
Lacey was implicated in a fatal crash in December that claimed the life of Herman Hall, 78. Initial accusations against him included reckless driving, speeding, and overtaking in an area where it was prohibited. This situation escalated when another driver swerved to avoid a race, resulting in a collision.
The footage allegedly reveals Lacey “driving at a high speed,” overtaking three cars and an 18-wheeler in a zone marked with a 40 mph speed limit. Lacey’s attorney, Matthew Ollie, mentioned that there was “no objection” to Lacey’s actions, and these maneuvers were captured on surveillance cameras.
The police video showcases body camera clips of responding officers interacting with various witnesses, including the driver of the 18-wheeler. According to this witness, when Lacey’s car approached, a gold truck in the opposite lane braked sharply, prompting a female driver in a Kia to veer into oncoming traffic to avoid a collision. This led to a crash with another vehicle heading south.
“Did you see that green charger speeding by? That green charger was responsible for it all,” remarked the driver of the 18-wheeler.
Authorities reported that multiple witnesses indicated Lacey’s driving was the catalyst for the accident. One witness claimed she had the option to leave the area safely.
The female driver later informed police, “The other car was trying to overtake me. I tried to maneuver around to avoid a hit from him.”
A written report stated that Lacey was traveling over 80 mph at one point.
According to police, the gold truck driver reacted correctly to avoid a direct hit with Lacey’s vehicle. They explained that when the gold truck shifted right, it startled the Kia driver, causing her to swerve left into opposing traffic, leading to the crash.
Ollie insisted that Lacey could not have caused the accident because he was “about 72.6 yards behind the other vehicle” at the time. He said, “This narrative has not been portrayed accurately.” He further emphasized the importance of the distance in understanding the situation.
Lacey’s agent, Rocky Arsenault, indicated back in January that Lacey was assisting authorities with the investigation. The football player had previously shown promise with a significant 2024 season, racking up 58 catches, 866 yards, and nine touchdowns.
