Police Stand by Results of Kyren Lacy Crash Inquiry Even After New Video Emerges

Legal Defense Claims Innocence for Late LSU Receiver Kylen Lacey

The attorney representing the deceased LSU wide receiver Kylen Lacey asserts that his client was not responsible for a deadly shipwreck in Louisiana back in December 2024.

However, the Louisiana State Police maintain their version of events.

This was discussed in a video report aired on HTV10 in Houma, Louisiana. The footage indicates that Lacey’s car was positioned about seven yards behind the vehicle involved in the incident that claimed the life of 78-year-old Herman Hole.

This new evidence calls into question the original conclusions drawn during the Louisiana State Police investigation, which resulted in Lacey being charged with negligent homicide. Tragically, Lacey, who was 24, died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound after a police chase in April, just a day before a Louisiana judge was scheduled to review evidence related to the case.

In an interview, attorney Ory suggested that the security camera footage captures not only Lacey’s vehicle trailing behind the crash but also shows the late football player maneuvering around the wreckage.

The HTV10 report also featured body camera clips of Louisiana troopers seemingly guiding witnesses on what details to include in their statements. Ory contends that the District Attorney’s case report bolsters Lacey’s defense.

According to Ory, “The evidence presented in the crash report does not suggest that Kylen Lacey should have been aware that his actions contributed to the collision, which was approximately 72 yards ahead of him.”

Despite this video evidence claiming to support Lacey’s innocence, the Louisiana State Police haven’t altered their official stance on the matter.

In a statement given to media outlets, state police elaborated, “After the crash, LSP conducted an extensive investigation with input from crash reconstruction specialists using all available data. The findings indicated that Lacey’s reckless driving while approaching oncoming traffic led to the crash. These results were presented to the 17th Judicial District Court, which subsequently sanctioned an arrest warrant based on the accumulated evidence.”

Additionally, they noted, “There were no objections regarding Lacey’s position behind the crash scene. His erratic driving contributed to a series of crash incidents.”

During his time with LSU, Lacey recorded 58 receptions for 866 yards and nine touchdowns in 2024. He was anticipated to be among the top wide receivers entering the 2025 NFL Draft.
