Police warn homeowners about bandits pretending to sell roses in burglary scheme

Police in Fairfax, Virginia, a suburb of Washington, D.C., are warning of a series of robberies known as the “Ruse of Roses.”

Fairfax authorities are investigating five similar incidents that began Dec. 28, when robbers broke into a woman's home while pretending to sell roses on her front porch.

“In four of the robberies, a woman approached the house with flowers and knocked on the door. When no one answered, she returned to her waiting car. and stole valuables,” Fairfax County Police said in a statement. said in a press release on Wednesday.

Police said the suspects stole jewelry, cash and wallets.

Police said the suspects tried to conceal their identities by wearing masks and hiding surveillance cameras in their homes.

The robberies occurred on Farm Road in Great Falls, Lance Lane in Oakton, Windrock Drive and Dominion Reserve Drive in McLean, and Bishopgate Way in Reston.
