Polish Voters Head Back to Polls in Another Test for Globalist PM Tusk

WARSAW, Poland (AP) – Polish voters are voting Sunday to choose mayors in hundreds of cities and towns where no candidate won outright in the first round of local elections two weeks ago.

Mayors are elected in a total of 748 locations, including the cities of Krakow, Poznań, Rzeszów and Wrocław. These are areas where no candidate won at least 50% of the vote in the first round of elections on April 7th.

Local and regional elections are seen as a test for Prime Minister Donald Tusk’s pro-European Union government, four months after taking power at the national level.

Tusk’s party is doing well in major cities, including Warsaw, where its candidate Rafal Trzaskowski easily won re-election as mayor two weeks ago.

However, Tusk was unable to achieve a decisive victory overall. The main opposition party, Law and Justice, which ruled at the national level from 2015 to 2023, won more votes in state parliaments.

Mr. Tusk’s socially liberal Citizens’ Union has strong support in urban areas, but Law and Justice has a stronger foothold in conservative rural areas, particularly in eastern Poland.
