“This is just an attack on a political opponent,” former President Donald Trump said Monday of his criminal trial before entering a New York courtroom.
This trial will be the president’s first criminal trial. Democratic Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg charged Trump with 34 felonies for falsifying his documents to cover up his sex scandal. If Trump is convicted, he could face prison time.

“Nothing like this has ever happened before,” President Trump told reporters. “There was no incident and they [legal experts] People who don’t necessarily support or like Donald Trump said that. ”
“This lawsuit was brought as political persecution,” Trump continued. “This is an unprecedented persecution.”
“Again, this is an incident that should never have happened. It’s an attack on America. That’s why I’m so proud to be here. This is an attack on our country,” Trump said. the president said.
“This country is run by incompetent people who are deeply involved in this incident,” Trump said. “This is just an attack on a political opponent. That’s all. So I’m very honored to be here.”
Three separate prosecutors reportedly met with White House aides before indicting Trump, a political rival of President Joe Biden.

The 12 selected jurors will have to decide Mr. Cohen’s story for themselves. Mr. Cohen is expected to be the prosecution’s star witness, and he will face his boss, whom he once admired but now despises.
Jury selection will be important for both sides. Prosecutors have some advantage because the jurors are drawn from Manhattan, one of the most Democratic counties in the country. Trump’s team will be looking for a red needle in a blue haystack.
