‘Political’ to Blame L.A. Fire Budget Cuts for Impacts of Fire

On Thursday's CNN News Central broadcast, Rep. Brad Sherman (D-Calif.) said the Los Angeles Fire Department's budget cuts will likely be reversed, and they should be. Perhaps they were thoughtless, but that's not why the Palisades suffered this much. This was money to train people in 2025. “And if you can explain that for political reasons in some way that is currently affecting firefighting operations on the ground…I don't know how to explain it.''

“The budget cuts are related to funds that are scheduled to be spent in 2025 and will be used primarily for training,” Sherman said. I'm glad to see that at the city level of Los Angeles, we expect to see more funding for our firefighters than we've had in the past. I can say that I should have done it. Yes, I think these cuts can and should be reversed. Perhaps they were imprudent, but that's not why Palisades suffered this much. was funding to train people in 2025. And if you can explain that for political reasons it's somehow affecting firefighting in the field right now – how do you do that? I don’t know if I will.”
