Politifact’s Claim on Trump and Mamdani
Politifact recently asserted that President Trump was misleading when he referred to Democratic New York City candidate Zohran Mamdani as a communist. It’s an interesting claim, nonetheless.
Mamdani seems to align with Trump’s sentiments while taking a stance against certain political views.
Some might say that Politifact, which I won’t link to, operates as a biased outlet. Their attempt at fact-checking seems to mask a distinctly leftist agenda, potentially misleading readers by overlooking Mamdani’s own statements.
Last week, Trump shared his thoughts on his social media platform, stating, “Zohran Mamdani, a 100% communist madman, has just won the DEM primary and is on his way to becoming mayor.”
Predictably, certain political factions have rushed to defend Mamdani, engaging in what could be described as deceptive omissions.
Politifact explained, “Mamdani’s platform aims to make city living more affordable through free buses, daycare, rent control, and city-owned grocery stores.” It presents him as a compassionate individual trying to aid the community.
But then there’s this stark contradiction…
According to Politifact, “Mamdani’s platform is not akin to communism,” which they define as a system seeking government control over private property and industries.
It’s a curious stance.
What’s clear, or at least seems to be, is that Mamdani has openly identified as a communist, explicitly sharing his beliefs and his vision. Yet, Politifact appears to contradict this reality, posing the question: “Will you believe us or your own lying eyes?”
It’s evident that media outlets are becoming more desperate, as they try to downplay Mamdani’s self-identification. His acknowledgment of being a communist is clear in a video, and yet some still insist that isn’t the case.
This situation feels reminiscent of other contradictions out there.
Take Joe Biden, for example; he appears to be struggling both mentally and physically as president. There’s ample footage to illustrate his condition. The media, however, often tries to spin observable realities into something less truthful.
Ultimately, it seems unavoidable: Mamdani is indeed a communist. Despite him admitting it on video, there’s a tendency for political voices to reinterpret that admission. They continue to claim, contrary to evidence, that he isn’t a communist, thereby rendering any assertions of his beliefs as “false.”
It feels a bit like saying someone isn’t who they’ve claimed to be post-fact.
This is the lens through which Politifact evaluates claims.
Clearly, those identifying with communism have had a profound impact on discourse.
Interestingly, over the last decade, seeing mainstream media lose credibility has been a remarkable evolution.
