Former President Donald Trump held a three-point lead over his con man Joe Biden in Virginia, a state that Hunter’s father reportedly won easily. 9.4 points In 2020.

The poll’s results, within the poll’s margin of error of 4.8 percentage points, showed Biden’s approval rating down from 42 percent in the previous VCU-Wilder poll released in January, while Trump’s remained unchanged at 39 percent. The new poll was conducted June 24-July 3, so some of the results come after the June 27 presidential debate, where Biden’s lackluster performance raised questions about his age and fitness to do the job.
“Virginia is an issue,” said former Virginia Gov. L. Douglas Wilder, a Democrat. post“It’s a close race. It’s a turnout election in Virginia.”
One problem is Biden’s approval rating in the state, which is a dismal 22 percentage points below his approval rating (58% disapproval and 36% approval), while Republican Virginia Governor Glenn Youngkin has a 50% approval rating and just 39% disapproval rating.
According to the poll, incumbent Democratic Senator Tim Kaine is leading his Republican opponent, Hun Kao, by 11 points, 49% to 38%.
The poll was conducted among 809 Virginia adults between June 24 and July 3, so it doesn’t take into account the recent assassination attempt on Trump, and no one knows how or if that will change the shape of the race.

Currently, a RealClearPolitics poll of Virginia’s average public opinion polls shows that Tied upOf the last four polls, including this one, two are ties, one has Biden leading by three points, and one has Trump leading by three points.
This is terrible, horrible, terrible news for the Biden campaign. Virginia should not be an issue. Trump does not need to win Virginia to win the election. Biden has to win Virginia, but these polls mean he has to spend his most important asset — his time — in a state he should be able to win easily.
More bad news for the Biden campaign: This same poll had Biden leading by three points at the start of 2024 — a six-point tilt toward Trump.
A lot could change in the coming months, but for now, Biden’s team has all the hallmarks of a first-term president who unsuccessfully ran a reelection campaign amid an air of inevitability surrounding his opponent.
The Biden campaign appears to be at a wake.
