Pollster Frank Luntz harshly criticized Democratic candidate Kamala Harris' performance in her first interview on Thursday.
Luntz made the comments during an appearance on CNBC's “Squawk Box” on Friday, where after listing a number of missteps by Harris, he concluded that based on her performance in the interview, she would lose in a debate against former President Donald Trump.
“I was not impressed.”
“They're going to be side-by-side in this debate and based on last night's performance, Harris is going to be a disappointment,” Luntz said.
“At the end of the day, voters are comparing the two. This is not an election run in a vacuum,” he continued. “And she hasn't done what she needed to do to allay those concerns by focusing on her values instead of our priorities. This is a pretty big miscommunication.”
Luntz gave Harris a C and said she needed to do better in the debates if she wanted to stay in the election.
“I was surprised,” he said. “As an observer and as someone who expected more from her after all that time spent preparing, I was not impressed.”
Lantz went on to criticise the chancellor on seven other points, saying he seemed unprepared to answer questions about what he would do if he took office.
“She spoke as if it were a convention speech. She didn't specify what the American people want in terms of a president or policies,” he said.
Luntz also criticized Harris' response about how she felt when President Joe Biden called to say he was dropping out of the race and endorsing her.
“She needs to be authentic. She needs to be honest,” Lantz said. “She had a problem with being authentic. [back] For the 2018 campaign.”
Luntz also gave Waltz very low marks for his response to accusations that he lied about his military service, calling it evasive and not actually apologizing.
