Polymarket Launches New Betting Platform for 2028 Presidential Election

Betting platform Polymarket unveiled its “new Polymarket” on Friday via a post on X, centering on the upcoming 2028 presidential election.

At that moment, Vice President JD Vance was in the lead with 27%, despite not having declared a political party. As Polymarket explains, it’s the largest forecasting market worldwide, letting users “buy and sell stocks that represent potential future event outcomes.”

Democratic Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez from New York was in third place at 10%, followed closely by former Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg. Vice President Kamala Harris, previously a candidate in 2024, was ninth, trailing behind former President Donald Trump.

Among Democrats, Gavin Newsom appeared to be leading with a 22% chance of winning, with Ocasio-Cortez not far behind at 18%. Other lesser-known candidates had lower odds, like Pennsylvania’s Josh Shapiro at 7% and Harris at 6%.

On the Republican side, Vance dominated the market with a striking 56%, leaving Secretary of State Marco Rubio in second with only 6%.

Vance had taken on the role of RNC Campaign Finance Chair in March, a position he’s held while also serving as Vice President. This new role solidifies his status as a prominent GOP fundraiser, likely making him a key player in the upcoming elections.

Recently, Vance has made headlines by participating in viral interviews on mainstream television. There’s also been talk of his involvement in influencing Trump Cabinet picks through the Senate.

Republican Representative Byron Donald referred to Vance as a “clubhouse leader” back in April, indicating he could be a formidable opponent in the 2028 race.

Newsom has frequently appeared on social media and faced challenging interviews, which some analysts suggest could serve as preparation for the 2028 election. He has also received endorsements from key figures like South Carolina Representative Jim Clyburn, who expressed optimism about Newsom’s presidential prospects during a July event.

Clyburn, described as a “King Maker” within the Democratic Party, played a crucial role in supporting Joe Biden’s 2020 campaign. His endorsement was significant in Biden’s success during the state’s primary elections.
