Former Secretary of State Mike Pompeo on Friday did not rule out accepting former President Donald Trump’s post in his second administration if he is re-elected in November.
Asked by Fox News’ Neil Cavuto if he would consider working for Trump again, Pompeo said he was “honored” to hear his name was mentioned. His first four years, he joked, were probably “not going well.”
“I don’t really comment on jobs that I haven’t been offered,” he says, “but if I get the opportunity to take that job and think I can make a difference…almost certainly. I would say yes to that,” he added. It’s an opportunity to try to get results on behalf of the American people. ”
After Kabuto suggested he expected loyalty from the former president, he continued, “I believe that President Trump is looking for someone who will faithfully do what is asked of him.” “As president, I think you should always ask that of everyone.”
He added that he wants his team to do the same.
“As Secretary of State, I certainly wanted my team to do what I wanted them to do, and when I found out they couldn’t do that, I was very frustrated,” Pompeo said.
The former secretary was also asked Friday about No Labels’ decision to move forward with formal participation in the 2024 White House race. However, the political organization, which was set up to rally support for a third party, has not yet announced any candidates.
Kabuto pressed former Trump officials to consider the issue.
“At the end of the day, the party system we’ve had over the years has allowed every president to stay in power for decades,” Pompeo said. “I don’t think this will change.”
“One of the reasons I suspect they’re having a hard time getting people to come forward, even in terms of winning the Presidency, is to be honest about how Americans think about the political process. “The chances of success in rebuilding are also low,” Pompeo added. “At the end of the day, you can’t win in a vacuum, Neil, you have to have a candidate. And they don’t seem to have one yet.”
Instead, the former secretary said he still expects a rematch between President Trump and President Biden to take place in November.
