Olivia Rodrigo Critiques Trump Administration’s Use of Her Music

Pop star Olivia Rodrigo, who has won a Grammy, has voiced strong criticism toward the Trump administration for “picking fights with pop stars.”

When asked about U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) incorporating her song “All-American Bitch” into a video, Rodrigo mentioned to NPR that she views this as a tactic to distract the public.

“It was just awful to see a song that I wrote about feeling trapped in a misogynistic box that we put women in — this song being put to these just grotesque, cruel scenes of ICE raids,” she commented, expressing her disapproval over the use of her music.

Rodrigo responded back then by criticizing the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) for featuring her song in a video focused on deportations.

Reflecting on the situation now, the “Vampire” artist feels the entire event was meant to shift public attention away from other issues. She stated, “Picking fights with pop stars is a great distraction. You know, while they do kind of other really awful, awful things.”

In reaction, the DHS addressed Billboard, stating, “America is grateful all the time for our federal law enforcement officers who keep us safe,” and suggested Rodrigo might consider thanking them for their service instead of belittling their sacrifices.

Rodrigo’s not alone in her frustration. Last year, singer Sabrina Carpenter voiced her anger regarding the White House using one of her songs in an ICE video, calling the agency “inhuman,” “evil and disgusting.”

Ariana Grande also reacted to a TikTok that featured border agents apprehending individuals, using her song “Bye” from 2024 as a backdrop. She demanded that the Trump administration stop such usage and referred to the enforcement of laws as “barbaric, inhumane, heinous nonsense.”

Recently, Rodrigo managed to raise $20 million for Planned Parenthood and other progressive organizations via her newly established Daisy Chain Fields Festival.
