British singer Charlie XCX accidentally intervened in Vice President Kamala Harris' presidential campaign with a casual “X” post as the Democratic Party seeks to co-opt pop culture and Gen Z tropes.
Charlie XCX, who appeared to endorse Harris' campaign in July, posted on X that “Kamala is a brat,” but recently said Vulture She said her post was not meant to express political support, but was intended to be “something positive and light-hearted.”
However, accounts associated with Harris' campaign have begun plagiarizing the pop star's album cover style in their social media posts. Vulture It was acknowledged that a “branding misstep” by Charlie XCX was to blame.
The “Apple” singer's sixth studio album, “Brat,” has spawned numerous memes, TikTok dances, the creation of new catchphrases, and added the word “brat” to Gen Z's ever-evolving vocabulary.
It's worth noting that the word has been reconceptualized and is no longer used in a derogatory sense. According to Charlie XCX, “brat” can be summed up as “Who give a fuck?”
When young people call themselves “brats,” they could be communicating their preference for a “messy, carefree attitude” and their opposition to traditional elements of fashion, says one study. Report by Teen Vogue.
There's also the “Brat Aesthetic,” known for featuring a decidedly “ugly” green color.
Charlie XCX continued: Vulture She doesn't want to be a “political artist.”
“My music is not political,” she says. “Everything I do in life is reflected in my art. What I say, what I wear, what I think, what I enjoy, everything is reflected in my art. Politics never influence my art.”
“I'm not Bob Dylan and I've never pretended to be,” the singer added.

However, the pop star confessed that she “knew what she was doing” when she made the Harris-related X post, but admitted that she “didn't expect talking about being a f**king bitch and partying and needing a Bic lighter and a box of Marlboro Lights would end up on CNN.”
Still, Charlie XCX said she wants to stand on “the right side of democracy” and “the right side of women's rights”, and that these issues are “very important” to her.
“I'm happy to help prevent democracy from failing forever,” the singer added, seemingly unaware that many believe Harris was undemocratically “inaugurated” as the Democratic vice presidential nominee after President Joe Biden was ousted from his reelection campaign in a coup.
