Michigan TV Anchor Reveals Breast Cancer Diagnosis
A well-known TV anchor in Michigan has shared her breast cancer diagnosis, just six months after receiving a mammogram.
Jamie Edmonds, who has been a sportscaster at WDIV-TV in Detroit for more than a decade and also hosts a morning radio talk show on WJR, expressed her shock in a recent Instagram post. Two months ago, she received a life-changing call from her doctor.
“I was completely gutted,” Edmonds remarked, reflecting on the moment. “I found out my biopsy results were positive for breast cancer.” At 42 years old, she couldn’t help but feel a wave of fear wash over her as she wondered about the future, particularly about her young daughter.
Interestingly, Edmonds mentioned that her diagnosis came following a clean mammogram in July of last year. It was only about six months later that she began to notice something off. “I felt an itch and sensed something wasn’t right,” she said.
“This was so unexpected. I mean, I have no family history of it,” she noted. “It’s terrifying, especially having a little girl. But I do trust the Henry Ford Health team. I think we can get through this together.”
Describing her emotional journey, Edmonds spoke about the daunting nature of a diagnosis like this. “It’s kind of like living as a ghost, just going through the motions. Dark times, really dark.”
To cope with her diagnosis, Edmonds emphasized the importance of support from the breast cancer community. “I could have gone through this alone, but seeing others face similar challenges was incredibly helpful,” she stated.
Since the diagnosis, her family and friends have stepped up, providing meals and helping to care for her daughter as Edmonds focuses on her recovery.
Currently undergoing her sixth round of chemotherapy, she will be stepping away from her morning radio hosting duties to concentrate on her health. “If sharing my story can help someone else, that’s what I aim to do,” she concluded in her post.
