Porsche on Monday unveiled its most powerful and fastest luxury car ever, the electric Taycan Turbo GT, which takes just 2.1 seconds to reach 60 mph.
However, according to Porsche, it has a staggering 1,093 horsepower, which is among the best on the market, so it will cost a hefty price tag of about $230,000. press release previously reported CNN.
The production car is currently available for pre-order and is expected to hit the market this summer.
The Taycan Turbo GT has already set two EV racetrack speed records, beating the Tesla Model S by a whopping 18 seconds in one contest.
For reference, Swedish manufacturer Koenigsegg’s Regera boasts the most horsepower money can buy, with an output of 1,479 and a correspondingly exorbitant price tag of $1.89 million.
Porsche’s Turbo GT is the latest, more powerful version of the German manufacturer’s Taycan base model, and it’s also a faster option, spinning to 60 mph in 4.5 seconds.
This metric has little practical value for the average driver, but it’s worth noting that the Turbo GT’s power drops to zero within just 2.1 seconds after pressing the nifty little “launch control” button. That is, it only increases up to 1,093 horsepower in the time from 60 to 60. I was pushed.
Otherwise, the car’s standard maximum output is 777 horsepower, which is huge even by normal standards, CNN reported.
The Taycan Turbo GT also features a so-called “Attack Mode” that lasts for 10 seconds and boosts horsepower to 937, while simultaneously making the car’s suspension stiffer and improving cornering.
In contrast, the popular Ford F-Series vehicles have horsepower ranging from 325 to 720 horsepower, while the standard Toyota Prius, which doesn’t necessarily have the highest top speed, makes 196 horsepower.
A Porsche spokesperson told CNN that all of Porsche’s acceleration features can only provide increased power levels for short periods of time because the motor and battery must be cooled between uses.
Moreover, if the actual output itself lasts for a long time, it will drain the battery too quickly.
In addition to its impressive performance metrics, the Taycan Turbo GT boasts “sporty Race-Tex features” such as black leather strips and embroidered logos on the front headrests.
Six standard exterior colors are offered, including Porsche’s new paint colors Pale Blue Metallic and Purple Sky Metallic, while custom interior options are available in blue and silver tones upon request. Both are reserved exclusively for the Taycan Turbo GT in the first year on the market,
The Taycan Turbo GT is available in two versions. Vehicles with the standard He four-seater model, or the Weissach He package, which eliminates the rear seats and other comfort items to reduce weight and run one-tenth of a second faster. , according to Porsche.
Porsche’s luxury EV products come at a time when demand for battery-powered vehicles is declining and other manufacturers are cutting costs as a result.
Rivian Automotive announced last week that it was canceling plans for a $5 billion factory in Georgia that has yet to be built. On the same day, the company launched a budget electric car designed to rival Elon Musk’s Tesla.
More popular EV makers like BYD (which dethroned Tesla as the EV leader in the quarter ending Dec. 31) haven’t posted significant profits so far this year.
In fact, BYD stock has fallen more than 6% since the beginning of the year.
Meanwhile, Tesla’s stock price fell more than 28%. The loss is believed to be due to Elon Musk being removed from the world’s richest list for the first time since the fall of 2021.
