According to the Reuters article, Porsche watered down its electrification target by explicitly linking it to “customer demand and developments in the electric vehicle sector, saying in a statement only that the 80 percent target could be achieved if these factors were justified.”
The article continues:
“The transition to electric mobility is taking longer than we thought even five years ago,” Porsche said in a statement. “Our product strategy depends on customer demand and the development of electric mobility, but we are set to offer more than 80 percent of our vehicles as fully electric in 2030.”
According to Reuters, Porsche is facing declining EV sales through 2024.
Meanwhile, fellow German luxury car maker Mercedes-Benz is backing away from a promise to go all-electric by 2030 and will return to gasoline-powered vehicles due to sluggish sales, Breitbart News reported in May.
The media continues:
In January, Ford Motor Co. implemented plans to scale back production of its all-electric F-150 Lightning pickup truck, cutting it by nearly half, citing lack of demand from U.S. consumers.
Meanwhile, late last year, nearly half of the nation’s Buick dealerships opted to accept buyouts from General Motors Co. to avoid selling EVs. Auto dealers have urged President Joe Biden to halt his EV mandate, citing lack of demand.
During his recent speech at the Republican National Convention, former President Donald Trump vowed to save the American auto industry from Biden’s EV mandate, according to Breitbart News.
“I would end the electric vehicle mandate from day one, save the U.S. auto industry from the total destruction that is currently happening, and save American customers thousands of dollars per car,” he said.
