Porsche announced Monday that a new hybrid version of its 911 sports car will debut later this month.
The German luxury carmaker has announced that the unveiling of the Porsche 911 with a hybrid powertrain will take place on May 28th.

“For the first time in the 61-year history of our icon, we are equipping a road-legal 911 with a hybrid drive system,” Frank Moser, vice president of Porsche’s 911 and 718 model lines, said in a statement. . “This innovative performance hybrid makes the 911 even more dynamic.”

The announcement comes as the company has driven more than 3.1 million miles on the hybrid sports car for testing and development before heading into production.

According to Porsche, the hybrid 911 set a lap time 8.7 seconds faster than its predecessor during testing at the Nürburgring Nordschleife.
