Possible Harris Debate Problem Is ‘Knowing the Facts Too Well’

Rep. Adam Schiff (D-Calif.) said Monday on MSNBC's “Inside” that whether Vice President Kamala Harris knows the facts could be an issue in her debate with former President Donald Trump.

“I don't know if you've heard there's a debate tomorrow, but you and the vice president were both prosecutors in California at the same time. How do you think that background will impact her as she debates Donald Trump tomorrow night?” moderator Jen Psaki asked.

“I think she'll be agile. She knows the facts and she'll be able to marshal the facts to support her case,” Schiff said. “The challenge for a vice president is two-fold. One is that if you know too many facts, you're not able to offer the broader perspective and help people understand you and show a more human side. You risk being memorable because you're just a laundry list of facts, and that's not what people want.”

He added: “Because the bar is so low for Trump, the bar is much higher for Kamala. Trump will lie and he will boast. He will be Trump. People don't expect anything more from him, and they never will, but this is an opportunity for Kamala to show her human side while also holding Trump accountable for his lies. If the questions lean towards a sense of humor, show your sense of humor, if Trump is being obnoxious, correct him. There's a lot to accomplish.”
