Measles Exposure Warning in Kansas

Wichita, Kan. – The Kansas Department of Health and Environment (KDHE) has issued a warning regarding three locations where there may have been potential exposure to measles in early May.

According to KDHE, these locations include the Wichita Dwight D. Eisenhower National Airport, the Hutchinson Public Library, and an auto parts store in Cimarron located in Gray County.

Health officials indicated that travelers could have been exposed to measles at Eisenhower Airport in Wichita on Friday, May 2, between 6:15 p.m. and 9 p.m., and at the Hutchinson Public Library on Saturday, May 3, from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m.

The Reno County Health Department has confirmed a positive measles case in a resident of Reno County. Officials clarified that this case is not linked to any current measles outbreaks in the U.S. and does not signify community transmission within Reno County. KDHE is reaching out to individuals who might have been exposed during the infectious period.

Additionally, KDHE notes a potential exposure at B & P Auto Parts, located at 515 S. Main St. in Cimarron, with exposure dates on Friday, May 2, Monday, May 5, and Tuesday, May 6.

Health officials recommend monitoring for symptoms for 21 days following potential exposure, which may include fever and a new or unexplained skin rash.
