Postecoglou insists his job at Spurs is unfinished but seems accepting of his situation.

Postecoglou Focuses on Upcoming Final Amid Uncertainties

Ange Postecoglou has expressed that he’s left a lot of his previous work behind after significant matches and achievements, hinting that he feels somewhat resigned regarding his fate at Tottenham before the Europa League final against Manchester United. Following a tough Premier League season where his team lost 21 matches and finished in 17th place, it seems unlikely he’ll continue next season after the game against Brighton on Sunday.

This final presents Postecoglou an opportunity to lead Spurs to their first trophy since 2008. He acknowledges that his focus is on significant achievements. Yet, discussions about his future seem to overshadow this event, and he addressed this in his comments on Tuesday. Notably, he mentioned he wasn’t ready to walk away and believes his work at the club is far from complete.

“From day one, I’ve told the young players that nothing in life or sports is guaranteed,” he noted. “You need to seize every opportunity presented to you. That approach has been my entire career. I find myself in this position where the last game I manage happens to be a big one. It’s not an unfamiliar space for me.”

He emphasized, “Nothing is more important than my responsibility to this football club and its supporters. I’ve generally managed to navigate these situations well.” Postecoglou reflected on his past experiences, highlighting that he had moved on from other clubs after significant successes, like winning the treble with Celtic and participating in the World Cup with Australia.

When asked if the Spurs hierarchy would shape his future, Postecoglou responded assertively. “My future is secure,” he stated, “Changing jobs is something many people do. We all experience it.” He reassured that he has a fulfilling life outside of football and intends to keep pursuing trophies regardless of where he ends up.

There was speculation on whether he might step away if he triumphs over United, but he dismissed that idea. “No,” he said firmly. “I feel my work here isn’t done. I genuinely believe we’re building something important.”

This year’s challenges have been widely discussed, and while he recognizes them, he also sees potential for growth within the club. “What matters is not whether we experience that growth now, but rather that I don’t think my job is nearly done. I want to guide this club wherever it needs to go.”

Postecoglou noted he doesn’t find it necessary to discuss his future ambitions with the players, stressing that focusing on the present opportunities is what matters now. “If I were worried about my tenure at this club, I probably wouldn’t be in this position to begin with.”

He also shared a heartfelt moment about his late father, expressing how he feels his father’s presence with him. As he prepares to become the first Greek or Australian manager in a European final, Postecoglou shared his love for Greece and his Australian upbringing, highlighting how it shapes his sports attitude.

On a team update, he stated that Pape Matar Sarr is available for selection following a knock, while Lucas Bergvall remains sidelined due to an ankle injury.
