Postmaster general to step down, asks for replacement

Postmaster Louis DeJoy, a former prominent Trump fundraiser appointed during his first term as president, announced Tuesday that he would resign.

in releasethe US Post Office said Dejoy has notified the board that it is “time to begin the process of identifying a successor.”

“As we continue to serve our country in our essential public service missions, there is a lot of important work remaining to ensure that postal services will become financially viable, but I have a successor and a successor. We have decided that it is time to begin a specific process of the company. We will prepare postal services for this change,” DeJoy said in a statement.

He said it was important for him to find a timely and systematic way to bring in a new Postmaster General who could continue the work he had started. He said he is confident that a “period of commitment” for change will position the postal service to succeed under new leaders.

“I am extremely proud of the 640,000 men and women of the U.S. Postal Service who live, work and serve in all of the American communities,” DeJoy said. “Even though we are victimized by the legislative and regulatory business models that have created nearly 20 years of devastation in our organizations and our workplaces, they are doing to better serve our fellow citizens. I endured and accepted change.”

DeJoy, who has been leading the agency since mid-2020, said it was one of the greatest joys of his life serving with them. The postal service release highlights Dejoy's efforts to guide the organization through the Covid-19 pandemic.

This change comes amid many other federal sales in the first few weeks of the second Trump administration, as the efficiency of the President and Elon Musk's government aims to reduce federal spending. .
