Prayer After Game Between Patriots and Texans Becomes Popular and Receives Support: 'We Need More of This'

A video showcasing the post-game prayer between the Houston Texans and New England Patriots has gained immense popularity online. Key players from both teams, such as quarterbacks Drake Maye and CJ Stroud, were seen uniting in prayer, expressing gratitude to God.

While after-game prayer rituals are typical in the NFL, this particular moment stood out, given the context of a high-stakes playoff game that was broadcast nationwide on ESPN. Usually, these displays of faith are shared mainly on social media.

The reach of this moment expanded when ESPN reposted the footage on their official social media, leading to millions of views across various platforms.

ESPN tweeted, “Drake Maye, CJ Stroud and Texans vs. Patriots players gather for prayer after playoff matchup,” accompanied by a heart emoji.

Stroud and Maye are known for their faith, which they’ve expressed openly on multiple occasions.

Viewers resonated with the clip, particularly considering the fierce competition that spanned over three hours, filled with intense plays and significant hits.

“It was so beautiful to see them praying together,” one commenter shared on ESPN’s Twitter. Another chimed in, calling it “my favorite NFL moment of the season.” There were also calls for more such moments in the future.

The Patriots clinched a victory over the Texans with a score of 28-16, moving on to the AFC Championship Game in Denver. The Broncos also secured a win that weekend, edging out Buffalo 33-30.

Following the game, Stroud generated further discussion on social media when he expressed gratitude to Jesus in his post-game interview, despite the team’s loss.

In his statement, Stroud said, “Before I do anything, I want to give glory to God, my Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Without Him, I am nothing. I am grateful for the opportunity to play this great game in this great organization.” He had faced quite a challenge during the game, throwing four interceptions while under pressure.

Both Stroud and Maye have shared their commitment to faith on their social media platforms, with Stroud describing himself as “a child of Jesus Christ,” while Maye simply affirmed, “Yes.”
