Preacher Voddie Baucham dies at 56 after medical emergency

Dr. Bodhi Baucham Passes Away at 56

Theologian, preacher, and author Dr. Bodhi Baucham died on Wednesday at 56 after a medical emergency. His family shared news of his passing on social media, stating, “We are saddened to let our friends know that our dear brother, Voddie Baucham, Jr., has left the land of death and entered the land of living.”

According to the post, he suffered an emergency medical incident and has now found rest in the presence of his beloved Savior, whom he had served since his conversion in college. The family asked for prayers for his children and grandchildren.

Baucham had faced significant health challenges, including a major heart failure in February 2021, followed by successful heart surgery the following month. However, complications arose when doctors discovered another blockage, leading to multiple surgeries.

Born in Los Angeles on March 11, 1969, Baucham was raised by a single mother. He founded the Baucham Ministries in 1993 and served as the pastor of the Grace Family Baptist Church in Houston, Texas. He later moved to Zambia, where he was the dean of theology at the African Christian University in Lusaka and co-founded the Institute of Public Theology.

He authored several influential books, including those on family faith and social issues. His book “Fault Lines,” released in 2021, became a bestseller and positioned him as a prominent voice cautioning churches about social justice ideologies.

Baucham held multiple degrees, including a Bachelor’s from the University of Houston, an M.Div. from Southwest Baptist Theological Seminary, and a D.Min. from the Southeast Baptist Theological Seminary, along with post-graduate studies at the University of Oxford.

Last year, he announced a move to Florida with his family. Shortly before his death, he was appointed president of a newly launched seminary.

He is survived by his wife, Bridget, along with nine children and three grandchildren.
