A pregnant 16-year-old girl was found dead in a wooded area in Georgia early Monday morning and her ex-boyfriend has been arrested for lying to police, local police said.
The Gwinnett Police Department (GCPD) said in a press release on Wednesday that Mia Campos’ body was discovered around 1 a.m. on the side of the road in the 3600 block of Stevens Road in Loganville, about 25 miles east of Atlanta.
Family members called 911 to report finding her body face-down in the woods and told police that Campos had left the home the previous night with an unknown person.
When she failed to return home, her family used an app on their phone to locate her body.

The exact circumstances of her death are unclear, but police said the medical examiner ruled Campos’ death a homicide after conducting an autopsy on her body.
At the time of her death, the girl was seven months pregnant with a baby boy, whom she had named Sebastian.
Police announced Wednesday that they had arrested Campos’ ex-boyfriend, 20-year-old Jesus Monroy, on suspicion of making false statements to police officers.
“During that interview it was determined he made false statements and he was arrested for making a false statement to a police officer,” Sergeant Collin Flynn said. Fox 5 Atlanta.
Flynn told Fox News Digital that Monroy has not been named as a suspect in the case and so far no suspects have been publicly identified.
Flynn said the incident remains under investigation and detectives are investigating all leads.

Campos’ family and friends have erected a makeshift memorial at the spot where she was found.
Her parents told Fox 5 on Wednesday that Monroy and her parents had been with them for two days before he was arrested earlier that day.
“We pray every night, that’s why he came with his parents, so when we got the notice it was a shock. We were like, ‘Wow,'” her father, Edward Campos, said.
The family says many questions remain about their daughter’s mysterious death and recall the heartbreaking moment they discovered her body.
