President-elect Trump announces Pam Bondi as his new pick for US attorney general

President-elect Trump announced Thursday night that he will nominate former Florida Attorney General Pam Bondi to be the next U.S. attorney general.

President Trump's latest Cabinet pick replaces former Florida congressman and attorney general candidate Matt Gaetz, who has said his nomination has been “disrupted” amid allegations of sexual activity with underage girls. In response to the incident, he declined President Trump's nomination for top prosecutor on Thursday. .

“Pam served as a prosecutor for nearly 20 years, getting tough on violent criminals and keeping our streets safe for Florida families,” President Trump said in a statement. “Then, as Florida's first female attorney general, she worked to stop the trafficking of the deadly drug and reduce the tragedies of fentanyl overdoses that have devastated so many families across the country. I asked her to do her job because she served on the Opioid and Substance Abuse Committee during my first term — we saved many lives!
