Saturday afternoon's foursome match, also known as the shot pairing, has been decided.
On Friday, the International dominated the Foursomes, crushing the United States by an astonishing 5-0 score. The sweep came a day after the Americans completed a sweep of their own, winning 5-0 in the first four-ball session Thursday afternoon.
Then on Saturday morning, the Americans bounced back and took an 8-6 lead over the International. Scotty Scheffler and Collin Morikawa defeated Adam Scott and Taylor Pendrith 2-up in the opening round. Tony Finau and Xander Schauffele then rounded out the Canadian pair of Mackenzie Hughes and Corey Connors on the 16th hole. In the morning finals, Patrick Cantlay and Sam Burns shut out Hideki Matsuyama and Sung Jae Im.
However, the match between Tom Kim and Siu Kim had the most exciting atmosphere. The Korean duo delighted the Canadian crowd by celebrating with birdies as if they had won the US Open. They easily defeated Keegan Bradley and Windham Clark, taking one point back over the Internationals and earning the team's first four-ball point in the process. Captain Mike Weir decided to send Kim and Kim together again this afternoon.
Remarkably, however, Coach Weir selected the same eight players who played Saturday morning to play Saturday afternoon. This is the first time in the history of the Presidents Cup that something like this has happened. Justin Ray. It remains to be seen whether this move will work or backfire, but it's an interesting decision to bench Jason Day all day.
