An illegal immigrant who was previously deported from the United States is accused of sexually assaulting a 14-year-old girl in Okaloosa County, Florida.
Jose Chan, a 24-year-old illegal immigrant from Guatemala, was arrested. Charged He was arrested on suspicion of sexual assault by the Okaloosa County Sheriff’s Office.
Police said Chan sexually assaulted the girl at her home on Feb. 25. The girl reported the alleged assault to her family, who then transported her to HCA Florida Fort Walton Destin Hospital.
A medical examination determined the girl had been sexually assaulted, and her DNA was found on Chan’s body after he provided a buccal swab to law enforcement.
Chang is likely a “fugitive” who successfully crossed the U.S.-Mexico border and was already deported from the U.S. on Feb. 9, the Federal Bureau of Investigation confirmed to law enforcement officials.
Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) has issued a detention order for Chan and requested his detention. Chan remains in custody at the Okaloosa County Jail.
