Authorities in Texas have arrested and charged an illegal immigrant in connection with the April 21 death of a 3-month-old infant.
The Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office announced that Melvin Jesus Aquino Enriquez, 26, of Porter, was charged with assault with injury to a child and family violence.
Authorities initially responded to a report of a child being injured on April 14 at a home occupied by Enriquez in the 25000 block of Needham Road in Porter, and “immediately began a thorough investigation into the circumstances surrounding the child’s injury.” “The sheriff’s office said in a statement. press release.
The baby was hospitalized, but ultimately “died” from his injuries on April 24.

The MCSO Special Victims Unit is awaiting autopsy results to “further clarify the circumstances that led to the child’s untimely and tragic death,” at which point authorities will determine whether “appropriate additional charges” are warranted. The sheriff’s office said it would.
The suspect is currently being held on $75,000 bail. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) also detained Enriquez “due to his immigration status,” the sheriff’s office said.

An ICE spokesperson told Fox News Digital that Aquino Enriquez, a “previously deported Mexican national,” was arrested “on an unknown date and location, without inspection, entry, or parole by an immigration officer.” He said he entered the United States illegally.
“On March 4, 2020, an immigration officer [ICE] “Enforcement Removal Operation (ERO) Houston encountered Mr. Aquino at the Harris County Jail in Texas after he was arrested for trespassing, and immigration officers were placed in custody,” a spokesperson said. Authorities transferred Mr. Aquino to the ERO Houston detention center, where he will begin immigration processing.
