‘Price is Right’ host Drew Carey says contestants are often drunk or high while on stage: ‘It’s not unusual’

The energy of the contestants on “The Price is Right” always seems to be next level.

In an interview TV InsiderLongtime host Drew Carey revealed that game show contestants are often drunk or high while appearing on stage.

“It’s common here,” Carey said. “You’ll see people eating gummy bears, you’ll smell alcohol on their breath. It’s not uncommon.”

“There was a guy here who was tripping on mushrooms,” he continued. “He was here with some friends. He was a shady guy. [comedy] I found out later when I went to UCB. [sketch improv theater, Upright Citizens Brigade] I went out and people were like, ‘Did you see this guy who said he was a skateboarding rabbi?’ I asked him what he did for a living, and he said, ‘I’m a skateboarding rabbi.’ He was totally surprised because he didn’t think he’d be chosen.”

Carrey joined “The Price is Right” in October 2007 after Bob Barker retired as host of the longest-running game show in television history that same year. Barker began hosting “The Price is Right” in 1972.

Last month, Carey admitted that working on the game show is the best job she’s ever had and said she has no plans to quit anytime soon.

“I want to die on stage with a microphone in my hand,” Carey said.Tonight’s entertainment.

“I think it was a mistake that Bob retired,” Carrey said. “I won’t make the same mistake. I’m going to continue with ‘The Price is Right’ as long as my heart is in it and as long as people want me to be on the show. I love this show. I feel like I was born to do this show.”
