Priest accused of altering the result of the final NFL game of the season

Catholic Priest’s Blessing and NFL Playoff Drama

The outcome of Sunday’s NFL playoffs may have been altered by a Catholic priest’s blessing. The Pittsburgh Steelers faced off against the Baltimore Ravens at Acrisure Stadium. This match was pivotal, determining leadership in the AFC North and the final playoff spot.

As the Steelers scored a last-minute touchdown to lead 26-24, the scene was ripe for a dramatic climax. The Ravens, however, found themselves with a chance to win, having managed a critical fourth-down play that positioned them for a 44-yard field goal attempt.

Unfortunately for them, kicker Tyler Loop’s kick went awry, veering to the right. Soon after, Ravens fans felt the sting of a heartbreaking loss.

After the game, NBC commentators Mike Tirico and Cris Collinsworth began discussing an intriguing angle, suggesting a priest’s involvement in Loop’s missed attempt. Tirico relayed that at around 6:15 p.m. local time, a priest had been spotted “sprinkling holy water” in the end zone where the kick went astray.

“The Catholic community in Pittsburgh is very strong. And then Tyler Loop missed a kick… allowing the Steelers to win,” Tirico recounted.

“So it’s not Tyler Loop’s fault,” Collinsworth added with a chuckle.

The priest turned out to be Father Maximilian Maxwell, who currently serves at St. Vincent Abbey in Latrobe, Pennsylvania. Interestingly, the Steelers have conducted their training camp at the university since 1966.

In a twist, the Benedictine Military Academy in Savannah, Georgia, also took pride in Maxwell, emphasizing his previous role as a theology teacher at their institution. They showcased his actions on their school Facebook page with enthusiasm.

Post-game, Steelers defensive lineman Cameron Heyward was asked about this potentially blessed sequence of events. He stated, “I’m not going to ask any questions. The good Lord made a good decision tonight. We are grateful and will keep moving forward.”

Meanwhile, Ravens players, including Loop, expressed their faith in the aftermath of the game. Loop, reflecting on the emotional roller coaster, shared that faith plays a significant role in his life. Quoting Romans 8, he mentioned how he believes that everything happens for a reason.

Ravens running back Derrick Henry encouraged Loop to hold onto his faith, reassuring him that his story was far from over.

Looking ahead, the Steelers will host the Houston Texans in Pittsburgh on January 12th.
