Arrest of Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor on Misconduct Charges
Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor, previously known as Prince Andrew, has reportedly been arrested on suspicion of misconduct in public office related to the Epstein Files.
His arrest occurred at Sandringham estate on February 19, coincidentally on his birthday. The Guardian reported that unmarked police cars and plainclothes officers were spotted at the estate shortly after 8 a.m.
“After a comprehensive assessment, we are opening an investigation into this allegation of misconduct in public office,” stated assistant chief constable Oliver Wright, as noted by The Guardian.
Details about where the former royal is being held remain unclear.
Wright emphasized the importance of maintaining the integrity and objectivity of the investigation, acknowledging the public interest in the case and assuring that updates will be provided at the right time.
The Thames Valley Police issued a statement on February 19, confirming, “We have arrested a man in his 60s from Norfolk on suspicion of misconduct in public office and are conducting searches at addresses in Berkshire and Norfolk.”
“The man is currently in police custody,” they added.
This marks a historic moment, as it’s the first time a member of the Royal Family has faced such arrest, potentially embroiling the Royal Family in an investigation.
Authorities had previously investigated claims that the former Duke of York disclosed sensitive details to Jeffrey Epstein while acting in his role as a UK trade envoy.
An image of Mountbatten-Windsor appearing to lean over a woman surfaced as part of the Epstein files, drawing significant worldwide attention.
Additionally, Virginia Giuffre has accused him of sexual assault and rape, claiming she was trafficked to Mountbatten-Windsor by Epstein.
Amid the ongoing allegations, King Charles III stripped Prince Andrew of both his royal title and His Royal Highness status in November 2025, effectively downgrading him to a private citizen and evicting him from Royal Windsor.
Mountbatten-Windsor has consistently denied the accusations against him.
This situation is still developing.
