Prince Harry on U.S. Citizenship: No Plans for Now
After moving to the United States five years ago, Prince Harry has recently clarified his stance on possibly becoming a U.S. citizen. During an appearance on a podcast featuring Hasan Minhaj, the question of citizenship came up.
Minhaj asked, “Are you planning to become an American citizen?” To which Harry responded, “Do I plan on becoming a U.S. citizen? There are no plans at this time.”
This statement seems to contrast with previous comments where the Duke had mentioned he was “considering” American citizenship. In a 2024 interview, he admitted it had crossed his mind but emphasized that it wasn’t a priority for him.
Experts like Christopher Andersen, who has written about the royal family, suggest that there are significant reasons for Harry to hold back on fully embracing American citizenship. He pointed out that becoming a U.S. citizen might intensify the narrative against him, given accusations of abandoning his responsibilities to his family and country.
Harry and Duchess Meghan Markle stepped back from royal duties in 2020, citing the British media’s harsh treatment of Meghan. They currently reside in Montecito, California, where their presence has sparked mixed reactions from the local community. Some residents allegedly blame the couple for rising property prices and increased activity in the area.
Interestingly, not all neighbors view them negatively. Actress Sharon Stone has expressed support for the couple, highlighting their desire to integrate into the community. She shared a lighthearted story about how they even waved at her friend while riding their bikes—a funny and relatable moment that seems to capture a more personal side of their lives in America.
