Prince Harry is set to reunite with his father, King Charles, in the next few weeks. This will be their first face-to-face meeting in about 20 months.
The 40-year-old Duke of Sussex will arrive in the UK early September for the WellChild Awards, where he will meet the 76-year-old King in his hometown, according to reports.
While there are indications that the two may be on a path to reconciliating, it seems that Prince William has declined an invitation from Harry. Insiders note that, despite ongoing family tensions, progress could start with this reunion.
Sources have expressed optimism, suggesting there’s a genuine desire on both sides to make this meeting happen. They emphasized that reconciliation seems to be within reach for the first time in a while.
Communication between Harry’s team and the palace has reportedly picked up, creating hope for a meaningful encounter when he’s back in London.
Insiders also hinted at the timing being right for mending relationships, particularly after a meeting between the author of “Spare” and the Monarch Communications Secretary in July.
While the exact plans for the meeting are not clear, there’s chatter that they might have straightforward, informal conversations instead of something more elaborate. Privacy seems to be a priority.
However, it appears that Prince William’s response to Harry’s attempts to reach out has not been positive.
This upcoming gathering could put King Charles in a difficult spot, as President Donald Trump is expected at Windsor Castle around the same time.
Interestingly, Harry’s wife, Meghan Markle, will not be joining him in the UK. She plans to remain in California with their two children, Archie and Lilibet.
Though this meeting could signify progress, insiders have remarked on the sadness stemming from the lack of connection between Charles and his grandchildren.
The last time Charles saw Archie and Lilibet was at the late Queen Elizabeth II’s platinum jubilee in June 2022, back when Archie was just three and Lilibet was still a baby.
Harry has mentioned before that family visits without proper security were not feasible for him. He has also expressed a strong desire for reconciliation with his father. Yet, he feels that communication has been lacking from Charles.
In a previous interview, Harry reflected on ongoing family disagreements but remained hopeful for healing, stating that there’s no sense in holding onto conflicts anymore. He emphasized that life is too precious to be spent in discord.
