Prince William Reflects on a Challenging Year
Prince William has shared that 2024 marks the “hardest year” he has ever experienced.
In a special episode of Eugene Levy’s show, “The Reluctant Traveler,” titled “Living a Royal Life in the UK,” William discusses the hardships the royal family has faced lately. This includes personal struggles, notably with Kate Middleton’s health and the diagnosis of King Charles.
In a preview clip set to air on October 3rd, William joined Levy for a pint, candidly addressing the challenges they’ve been navigating. “I think 2024 was the most difficult year I’ve ever had. You know, life is going to test us, and we have to overcome it,” he expressed.
In March 2024, Middleton’s cancer diagnosis surprised many. By January, she announced she was in remission following chemotherapy.
“I think 2024 was the most difficult year I’ve ever had. You know, life is about being tested and overcoming those challenges,” he stated.

Buckingham Palace also revealed King Charles’ cancer diagnosis in February 2024, though specifics about the type of cancer and the treatment plan remained undisclosed.
Later in November, while in South Africa for the Earthshot Awards, William reflected on the pain experienced by his family over the year. “It’s scary. It was probably the most difficult year of my life, making everything else challenging as well,” he shared in an interview. He expressed immense pride in his wife and the way they handled the situation, although he acknowledged it was “cruel” from a personal family perspective.
In another part of the show, William offered Levy a personal tour of Windsor Castle, jokingly mentioning, “We provide this service to everyone. We have personalized tours everywhere.” Their black cocker spaniel, Aura, accompanied them as Levy asked William how he likes to spend his free time.
“Sleep,” was William’s straightforward response. Managing three young children—Prince George, 12, Princess Charlotte, 10, and Prince Louis, 7—he indicated that sleep is a vital part of his life.
