There were some familiar faces in attendance at Britain’s “wedding of the year,” despite Prince Harry declining an invitation.
Prince William served as an usher at the lavish wedding of his friend Hugh Grosvenor at Chester Cathedral in northern England on Friday.
Prince Charles, 41, looked dapper in a black tailcoat over a crisp white shirt as he made a swift entrance into the cathedral without even greeting the crowds that had gathered outside.
The prince was seen getting out of a black Mercedes van with other guests and quickly making his way into the historic venue.
However, his wife, Kate Middleton, and his father, King Charles III, were absent from the special event as they are undergoing treatment for cancer.
The Duke of Westminster, who has a net worth of approximately $13 billion, and his current wife, Olivia Henson, invited more than 400 people to the gala.
After the traditional ceremony, guests traveled 15 minutes to Eaton Hall, Grosvenor’s 11,000-acre courthouse, for the reception.
The Sunday Times He described the ceremony as “the most unroyal non-royal wedding of the year, with Britain’s oldest and wealthiest aristocratic family heading north.”
Grosvenor’s godfather is the king himself, and he is also godfather to Prince William and Middleton’s 10-year-old son, Prince George, and Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s five-year-old son, Archie.
The 33-year-old is one of the few people who has remained close friends with both brothers amid the ongoing feud.
Despite inviting Prince Harry to the wedding, the Duke of Sussex, 39, reportedly declined the invitation out of fear that a reunion with Prince William would overshadow the big day.
In December, a source told Page Six that Prince Harry had privately called the friend to explain the situation and the two agreed it would be best if he didn’t come.
“Harry actually received the ‘save the dates’ card months ago but called Hugh to say it would be too awkward for him and Meghan Markle to attend, so he apologised and Hugh understood,” the source said.
At the time, the exiled royal family was also unaware of his estranged sister-in-law’s health problems and feared a reunion between her and his wife.
It was supposed to be Markle and Middleton’s first face-to-face meeting since Queen Elizabeth’s funeral in September 2022.
Meanwhile, it was previously heard that the brothers have not spoken to each other for over a year.
