Prince William’s Earthshot Prize Under Scrutiny
Prince William’s Earthshot Prize is drawing more attention after recent Justice Department disclosures connected its founding partner to Jeffrey Epstein. However, one expert notes that it might be overstating the case to claim the Prince of Wales received philanthropic funds tied to Epstein.
As the public face of the Earthshot Prize, which honors five individuals yearly for achievements in environmental conservation, William was keen on forming partnerships before the organization launched in 2020.
Among these partners is DP World, whose CEO, Sultan Ahmed bin Sulayem, was mentioned in the latest Epstein-related documents.
It’s important to point out that neither William nor his organization is directly mentioned in these files. Buckingham Palace and the Earthshot team did not respond immediately to queries for comment.
On Wednesday, William’s Earthshot initiative came under the radar from the anti-monarchy group Republic, which reported it to the Charity Commission. They referenced an email from Epstein to Sulayem, sent while Epstein was incarcerated in Palm Beach, where he mentioned, “Where are you? Are you okay? I loved the torture videos.”
Royal expert Ian Pelham Turner suggested that Republic’s actions might aim to undermine the royal family entirely. He remarked, “It’s a bit of a stretch to say the Epstein controversy reflects poorly on the award because donor funds are being used appropriately now.” He added that the group likely seeks to intensify pressure for dismantling the monarchy.
His concern lies in how William would handle the Charity Commission’s inquiries, especially when presenting evidence that might contradict the allegations.
Republic noted that DP World has contributed at least $1.3 million to William’s charity. They emphasized the necessity for thorough investigations, with CEO Graham Smith expressing the need for answers about William’s connections to both Andrew and Epstein.
“As this scandal unfolds, we need answers.” — Graham Smith, Republic CEO
Smith questioned how various advisories could have overlooked Sulayem’s character, given the available information. “It’s hard to believe they didn’t share these details. Earthshot should have conducted due diligence regarding the donor’s background. Did they do that, and if so, was William involved in any unfavorable decisions?”
As the fallout from these revelations continues, Fordwich stated that Prince William and Duchess Kate have expressed growing concern. Following the disclosure of Epstein’s documents, their spokesperson relayed that their focus remains on the victims.
Fordwich concluded, highlighting William’s proactive stance on the issue, pointing to it as a demonstration of his leadership.
The rising scrutiny also surrounds Prince Andrew, who faced consequences for his affiliation with Epstein. He lost his royal title last October, which adds another layer to the ongoing situation.
