Sir Timothy Lawrence Honored by King Charles
Sir Timothy Lawrence, husband of Princess Anne, has received one of the top honors in the Royal Victorian Order from King Charles.
This significant recognition makes him the first individual since Princess Catherine, who received the Grand Cross (GCVO) insignia from Queen Elizabeth II in 2019.
Lawrence was invested with the GCVO insignia during a small ceremony at Balmoral Castle on August 21.
This title, conferred directly by the monarch for his notable service to the royal family, places him in the same rank as Princess of Wales and Queen Camilla.
At 70 years old, Lawrence has been married to Princess Anne, who is 75, since 1992. His background as a royal naval officer has earned him considerable respect within royal circles.
The prestigious title was originally established by Queen Victoria in 1896, with the Night Grand Cross being the highest distinction within the order.
This promotion occurs amid speculations about changes within the monarchy and future leadership roles, especially regarding Prince William’s position.
In related news, King Charles also recently honored Queen Camilla, celebrating her 78th birthday by granting her the title of Vice Admiral of England.
This title is notably significant, as it marks the first time a woman has held a position that was traditionally reserved for the sovereign’s appointment.
The honorary title must be assigned alongside the First Lord of the Sea, currently held by Ir Gwyn Jenkins, who commented that the new role would strengthen Queen Camilla’s connection to the naval service.
“We are glad to welcome Queen Camilla to Devonport, at HM Naval Base,” Jenkins mentioned in an official statement on July 16.
Such visits are seen as a considerable morale booster, and this honorary role underscores the high regard that exists for the monarchy.
This isn’t the first royal title that Camilla has received from her husband. After Queen Elizabeth II’s passing in September 2022, King Charles named her the Queen’s spouse, a title that had not been used in over 80 years.
His affection towards her was further highlighted when he issued a royal warrant to officially change her title to “Queen Camilla” in anticipation of the Joint Coronation Ceremony on May 6, 2023.
